Holiday Recap

Has this holiday week been crazy for all of you?

It has definitely been non-stop for my little man and I. I'll quickly share...
  • Spending Christmas Eve alone. My little guy spent the night with his father.
  • Cooking Christmas dinner.
  • Building Lego's.
  • Making a lopsided gingerbread tree.
  • Visiting with friends from Indianapolis and enjoying lunch at Red Lobster.
  • De-cluttering the laundry room.
  • Attending a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese.
  • Going on a blind date.
  • Having breakfast with a colleague.
  • Getting a haircut.
  • Taking down the Christmas decorations outside.
  • A slumber party with the girls.
  • Let's not forget making some returns as well as purchasing some stuff that I'll forget about next year.

New Year's Eve...what are your plans?

8 Days and Counting

It is hard to believe that Christmas is next week. With shopping just about done (cash only), cards in the mail, and wrapping still to do, I need to decide a menu for Christmas day. My little man and I have decided on a ham, red velvet cake, and an oreo cheesecake. Sounds good enough to me. Each night this week we will be making cookies. It feels odd working the whole week, but it will give us two full weeks of vacation.

I'm slowly catching up on reading your blogs. I was tagged a while back and need to complete that as well.

Onto the Next Holiday

Two days after the feast and I am fortunately down 1.5 pounds. I will thank lunch yesterday to Taco Bell for that. Enough said.

Seriously, Thanksgiving went rather well. The weather here was absolutely beautiful. My parents were over bright and early. We put plastic on the windows, watched the parade on State Street, cooked an awesome Turkey with stuffing (thanks to Barefoot Contessa), and truly enjoyed each other's company.

It was something I have missed in a while. I haven't cooked like that since I have been divorced. I realized how much I really miss that.

I did call my little man early in the morning to wish him a Happy Thanksgiving and to let him know how thankful I am for him. It was really hard not spending the day with him, however I did get a phone call a few hours later from the X telling me how he forgot to tell me he had to work the next day, so he would be bringing my little guy back later in the evening. Hmmm, luckily it is all about my son, so I didn't make a smart ass remark. I'll stop there.

The day ended with a .5 pound in weight gain, leftovers sent home with everyone, Christmas lights put up outside, a flat tire, and the evening with my son.

I have so much to be thankful for.

Oh My

Ah, the end of the work week. The evening started with me dropping my son off to his father. He's going to be gone for four nights-oh my! I was then off to church, afterwards I was able to get fresh thyme and rosemary before stopping at Target, and to keep me calm, a Chai Latte from Starbucks. I was home by 9:45, and in the kitchen by 10:10. Everything is just about set. Let's hope it all taste well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ready...Set...

All is just about set for Thanksgiving dinner here at my house. Nothing extravagant...
  • spinach salad
  • roasted turkey, of course
  • apple herb stuffing
  • sweet potatoes
  • mashed potatoes
  • rolls
  • vegetables
  • apple pie
  • pumpkin banana mousse tart

The only items still to purchase are fresh rosemary and thyme.

All of this preparation and cooking should take my mind off my little guy who will be with his father.

Happy Halloween

The pumpkin got carved with only one mishap-my finger. Anakin Skywalker, aka the little man, opted not to go trick or treating. Communication with the ex will always be non-existent.
