Tribute

I have been thinking about September 11th quite a bit lately. That date happens to fall two weeks from today. It was five years ago when our nation was impacted by such terror.

I remember it so clearly. My husband at the time was calling me to inform me of the devastation that was happening in America. Also, at the time, I had a one month old baby. There were so many thoughts that were going through my mind. I couldn’t sleep and I was filled with fear, as I watched MSNBC non-stop.

Be sure to check my blog on 9/11 as I write a tribute remembering Marcia G. Cecil-Carter.

Back to Work

It is back to school time.

Monday was my official day to go back to work. Students came on Tuesday.

My little guy and I have some kind of routine going. Going to bed earlier and getting up earlier. That has been a HUGE adjustment.

The little man doesn’t go back to school until after Labor Day. Maybe that is a good thing.

Life is good.

Overview of the Party

Come if Ye Dare
Pirate “little man’s” birthday bash
Ship Sets Sail at 4:00 on August 19th
Meet at Lady “butterflygirl’s” Island

Once all the shipmates arrived (ten including the birthday boy), the games began.

First was Walk the Plank…everyone walked on a piece of wood that was over blue paper which represented water. I didn’t blindfold anyone, but had they been older, I would have. After successfully walking the plank, each child received their eye patch and head bandana.

Next was Pass the Pirate Hat…played like hot potato. When each child got out they were given their telescopes.

After that was Place the Flag on the Pirate Ship…like pin the tail on the donkey. No one was blindfolded. At this point of the day I just wanted it over. When they completed the task they were given their jewels.

Finally was Musical Islands…just like musical chairs. Each child earned a red scarf for around their waist and a balloon type sword.

We took individual pictures and a group photo. I later realized I forgot to play the Cannon Ball game (Bozo Buckets) and also forgot to add a mustache to their attire. Oops!

The hearty meal consisted of…
Hot Dogs, Italian Beef, Pasta Salad, Cheetos, Pretzels, Veggies, Peanuts, Pirate M&M’s, and Sand Pudding.

Then of course was cake. Yep, it was a Pirate of the Caribbean cake. Sam’s did a great job!

Opening of presents…I honestly can not believe all that he received. Thanks to everyone for their generosity. A special thanks to my brother who went overboard! He is for sure my little man’s favorite uncle.

Finally, the piñata. Yep, I got them all sugared up!!!

Forgot to get the pictures from my dad when I saw him yesterday, I was too busy putting Lego's together. Please be patient!!

The Party Is Over

Yes, it is finally over. No rain, thank God. Yes, my little man and I kept thanking Him all day. Our prayers were answered. I tried to explain to my little guy, you just gotta have faith that God is going to do the right thing. It apparently sunk in; my little man mentioned it when we reflected on the party.

It was a hectic day as my parents were over doing last minute things that, well, I asked my dad to finish before the party. It is amazing how much less free time my father has now that he is retired. It all got done, peacefully. I love my parents. Sometimes stress is added when it is unnecessary.

I did accomplish my to do list, plus more. When I ran out for my errands, I made a stop at Staples since they were acknowledging teachers. I got my little goodie bag. I even managed a trip to Target. We were in and out in less than thirty minutes…what a record!

I have lots of pictures to share, however the photographer (my dad) took home the memory card. Later I will write a brief overview of partying like a five year old. I need to get some sleep, I’m exhausted! The Batman Lego did me in.

Things To Do For The Party

*Update on Progress*
The roasts are in the crock pots cooking-tasting pretty good
The pasta is cooked. The vegetables are cut. Need to mix together with dressing tomorrow so that it can set-easy breezy
Sand pudding-will make tomorrow night-even put it in a sand bucket
Goodie bags, almost done-done

Things still yet to do...

1. Go to Costco to pick up:
A. rolls for the Italian beef-done

B. hot dog buns-done
C. candy for piñata-done, got at Wal-Mart

2. Go to Party City to pick up:
A. eye patches & earrings
B. rings-done
C. pirate scarves
D. balloons-done
E. gold coins-done

3. Go to Wal-Mart to pick up:
A. fruit snacks-done
B. cups-done
C. silverware-done
D. black eyeliner
E. red material-done

4. Go to Dollar Store to get swords-went, they didn't have any

5. Make telescopes-finished after 1st update

6. Paint cannonballs-finished after 1st update

7. Send parents to Sam’s on Saturday on way to party to pick up:
A. cake
B. ice
C. veggie tray-picked up dip at Wal-Mart, had plenty of vegetables to make own tray

8. Tidy up

For now, this is all I can think of. I work better at the last minute. I am a total procrastinator. Tonight I had an event with Church; otherwise I could have accomplished more than half of the list.

~flygirl~

Okay, so I am procrastinating some more.

I have some issues though. One being the store was all out of the pirate scarves and earrings. I'm going to run to a store of the same chain about fifteen miles west of me in the morning. I ended up cleaning the backyard, which was not on my list, yet there were some sticks and leaves that needed attention. Now the rain needs to stop. It is just a drizzle. My little man is hopeful as am I. For those attending be prepared for a wet lawn.

Update #2:
Worked on cannon balls, islands (forgot to put on my to do list) and telescopes while watching The View. 1:00 AM...it is now raining...really raining...no longer drizzling. If only I had a boat for the yard, then the kids could be in it like it was a ship. Weather.com is showing the rain ending within the next few hours. Let's hope the yard dries out.

Simplicity

All the wonderful back to school specials have enticed me to purchasing a new laptop. My little man has inherited my old laptop which is perfect for him, and well, the desktop my parents gave him…off to school.

Just to be running on Windows XP is so exciting. Everything runs much better/quicker.

Now I am able to type my posts via Word. Hooray!!! I am so excited to see how well it works.
Anyone else uses Word for their post?

Oh yes, let’s not forgot Outlook Express. Now I can manage my personal and Blogger e-mail accounts on one program.

Simplicity.

Birthday Confusion

This was the first year since the birth of my son that I was not able to see him when he woke up to wish him a happy birthday. I got through it though. Had it been last year-well that would have been a different story. I did call over to his father's to wish him a happy birthday, however he wasn't up yet. He called me back about an hour later. He was so excited when I wished him a happy birthday. He giggled when I asked him how old he was. I asked if he wanted five kisses or five spankings...he wanted the five kisses of course.

I picked him up from his dad's for lunch. He chose to go to Red Lobster. Same place as last year, but that was okay, it was his birthday. We spent a few hours together before I needed to get him back to his dad's, who was having a party for him that day, which my little man knew nothing about.

It was a difficult day on Sunday after picking him up. He was so excited about all the gifts he got, although he didn't know from who, or who some people were at the party. The sad thing was that he wanted to bring some of his toys here, to mom's house, but his dad told him they had to stay at dad's house. My little guy questioned me as to why that was. Now, how in the world am I suppose to answer that? Especially in a nice way. (Eduardo, I know you're gonna have a good answer.)

Still Up

It is 2:00 in the morning and I am still up. Why? I didn't think caffeine had an effect on me, however spending just about three hours with Number Twelve at Starbucks has proved me wrong tonight.

SAHM Shift-Ready to be Over

I am officially ready to go back to work. Yes, I said it. Yet I'm not exactly sure if I mean it.

Yesterday's dealings with my little man put me in such a foul mood that I decided that I was done being the SAHM. I'm not sure how all of you do it-but my hat goes off to you.

Maybe given my opportunity of having time off in the summer, breaks and vacations throughout the year, limited (if need be) hours worked per day, plus the fact that I work six miles from home, I feel that I am with my son quite a bit. Don't get me wrong, when he was younger I felt guilty.

Due to wonderful planning, thanks to ivillage.com, I know exactly when my son was conceived. I could even tell you the day, date, time, and well, the how. That led me to have an August baby. I stayed at home for three months. Went back to work in November, the week of Thanksgiving, so I only worked three days that week. Three weeks later and it was time for Christmas vacation, so I was able to stay home two weeks. *On a side note, I happened to get pregnant again, however lost the baby right after the new year. By this time, my little man was five months old. A week off in March for Spring Break, and well, only two months to go until summer vacation. A summer full of fun like watching him take his first step, getting him off the bottle, and celebrating his one year birthday!

As each year went on, it certainly got easier. I was blessed to find a woman in her home that lived in the same city as me to watch my little man. It was/has been the best thing for him. The love he not only receives from her, but her older children, as well as all the other kids brings a smile to my face. The social skills gained, the manners learned, and the positive influences provided have made him who he is today. She may have fed him Cheetos before me, put him in time-out for the first time (have a picture to prove), and even got medicine down him better than me, but he always knew me as mom.

This summer has been like that first summer in 2002 I spent at home with my son. I have so many wonderful memories to look back on, and I am thankful that this particular year, they ARE happy ones!

Relaxing Weight Gain

I got on that scale this morning and thanks to all that bread, wine, and ice cream from Indianapolis, I gained three pounds!!! Yes, three freaking pounds!!! I am not even going to reflect on that.

I'm sure the brownies that were made with love by my little man played a big part in those three pounds as well.

Actually, I don't think I have eaten as much as I did this past weekend.

Friday Night:
Flank steak seasoned Korean style
Rice-mushroomed flavored (I think)
Salad with strawberries, walnuts, and blue cheese
Some awesome bread from some kind of bakery
Ice cream sundaes

Saturday Morning:
Toast with leftover bread-yum!!!
Banana

Saturday Afternoon:
Turkey breast panini
Part of a soft pretzel

Saturday Evening:
Spinach salad
Pasta shells filled with cheese
Texas toast
Ice cream cone

Sunday Morning:
Yogurt
Banana

Sunday Afternoon:
Brownies

Sunday Evening:
Calamari
Bread
Sirloin Tips
Mashed Potatoes
Brownies

Monday Morning:
Banana
Yogurt
Mini bagel with butter

Now after I typed that all out, it sure looks like I ate a whole lot of food. Carbs, carbs, and more carbs!!!

I definitely deserved to gain three pounds.

Refreshed?

We're back!!!

An extra long weekend enjoyed by myself and most definitely my little man. One that was quite difficult for me as I had to overcome constant reminders of past visits that included the "ex".

It was also a weekend of reflection. Here I go again with self-discovery. I'm still trying to process my reflections, wondering if they are good or bad. Is that really possible?

Does it really matter? I think not.

Isn't that what reflection is for? To fix things that need repairing. To adjust things that need fine-tuning. To learn. To gain a better understanding. To accept the truth for what it is and deal with it.

As I reflect, I am reminded of many memories. Memories thought I once thought would be forever. Memories that I once thought should not be forgotten. Memories that I once thought were my life.

Now, here I am once again starting over. Is it making me stronger? I know you are all going to say yes, however it certainly does not feel like it at this particular moment.

Planning a Birthday Bash

So it is a dreary day. We got some good storms last night and early this morning. They were definitely needed.

It's a perfect day for me and my little guy to work on tidying up the house for the soon to be birthday bash. Yes, my "pirate" is having a birthday bash.
Number Twelve did an outstanding job making the invites. She volunteered. All I asked her to do was scan something for me. Her creativity took off from there. All I had to do was watch those cute little girls. Who would disagree?

I was going to make the pinata, however I have opted to just buy one. The week when my little guy got sick really threw me off. One less thing to worry about. I have to thank
Da Gal for giving me the directions on making a pinata. Maybe I'll try next year.

In the works are the gathering of pirate gear. After a game is played, each friend will receive a piece of becoming a pirate. A group as well as individual pictures will be taken. The last game will be finding the treasure, which will then lead to the pinata.

Food is going to be easy. Hot Dogs for the kids and Italian Beef for the adults. Of course there will be chips, salads, and other munchies. Oh, and I can't forget the pirate cake.

Now, if I could just get Captain Jack Sparrow, aka Johnny Depp, all would be set.

Court

I had a court date today for arrearage of child support.

The ex did not show.
His attorney was 15 minutes late.
Between my attorney and his attorney an agreement was made.

So tell me, why are my emotions everywhere?

Does it have to do with never having any closure?
Or is it because I tried to work this situation out so that it didn't have to go to this extreme?
Why do I care what "those" other people think of me?

No, it is not PMS. Remember that was two weeks ago.
